Forging on with Chelation and Anti-Microbials

The long drawn out process of detoxing metals continues. Some words that sum up the last few months are: discipline, consistency, focus, it’s a marathon, be careful and eat the right foods – consistently,  There’s no doubt about it that I find it difficult at times; the relentless effort required to get the job done can be tiresome in it’s own right. The roller-coaster of symptoms and trying to work out what did what seems never ending. I have had some glimpses of good health though, so I do feel I’m progressing.

Improvements I’ve noticed:

  • calmer, better mood, able to converse with people more naturally, sense of humor returning, dreadful thoughts disappearing, more energy and stamina, better appetite, enjoying food more, can stand up quickly, wanting to listen to music, more upbeat about the future, tolerate screens better and welcomed weight gain.

These might sound strange to a healthy person but the toxic people out there are all too familiar with weird symptoms that your average doctor would diagnose as “psychosomatic”.

I’ll admit I’m not exactly following the plan. I’ve obviously got some bad bug issues because every time I ramp up the bug killing products I feel rough. I lost patience and tried a round of DMSA which surprisingly didn’t knock me around too much, so I kept going. I’ve done 4 ’rounds’ of 20mg DMSA and 5mg Alpha Lipoic Acid. I’m pleased to be tolerating this dose. I’m fully aware I may not be able to tolerate it for what ever reason but it’s going well so far. I make sure I have a good break of about a week and load up on zinc and magnesium. I follow the Andy Cutler style of chelation. So I’m following  a combination of programs.

This is interesting because years ago I did over 40 rounds with 5mg DMPS but couldn’t tolerate a bigger dose. Adding ALA, even 1mg was a disaster. So what’s changed? Got thyroid TSH down, re-built gut and liver/kidney support basically. I have also used Mensah medical supplements (B12, Folate, Zinc, mag etc…) but it’s hard to say what role they’ve played. Also Dr Shultz #2 clay/charcoal mix up to 3 times per day 1/2 hour before meals. And coffee enemas as needed.

I don’t know of any two people that have had exactly the same program for getting well. We all seem to settle into whatever works through careful experimentation. There is no choice a lot of the time as many mainstream doctors will advise against chelation and thyroid support but also not come up with any other solutions – it’s usually too risky for them. In the mean time for many of us it’s a ‘do-it-yourself’ job.

So Thyroid is steady, supplements are good, I’m still experimenting with probiotics and I use milk thistle and kidney liquid formulas from Herbpharm plus some other bits and pieces. Getting the foundation right BEFORE chelation was key for me. Less chronic cases might be resilient enough to handle it straight.

  • bad bugs develop and multiply in a toxic and acidic environment
  • they always will unless we decrease the underlying toxic burden
  • pathogen load will decrease as you detoxify metals, and vice versa
  • they put a huge strain on our guts – 1000’s of billions of probiotics daily are sometimes required to get on top of the bad bug issue. Good bugs help eat the bad bugs. It’s war.
  • pathogens cause much cellular damage to organs, brain and glands.
  • these microbes produce toxic waste our liver has to deal with constantly
  • they lower or disrupt our energy frequency, we lose our vitality.
  • with pathogens decreasing, our immune system will then get a chance to catch up and strengthen. Particularly when we rebuild the gut as 90% of our immune system resides there. Strong gut = strong immune system
  • metals are excreted when bugs are killed – this is  a crucial stage and must be taken seriously and slow, particularly for severe cases. A lot is going on with this stage. Having to quit and start again can be very disappointing. Don’t just continue when feeling awful.
  • severe toxic cases require a very different protocol from mild cases. You really have to know what you’re doing.

I’m starting to understand how these unfriendly microbes associated with heavy metals really do cause us a heap of issues. Someone like Connie Fox says chelation is the final easy part and we should be feeling almost symptom free by the time we get to that stage. And Dr Klinghardt says “metals and bugs are great friends”. It’s not so much the metals directly causing us pain and weird symptoms but the associated bad bugs that seem to go hand in hand with chronic toxicity. It’s all the downstream issues that toxicity causes that give us grief. Maybe our immune systems are constantly over-whelmed trying to get on top of these chronic infections / bad bugs. That’s certainly how it feels sometimes.

All the best with your own recovery.

Setback After Not Tolerating Anti-Microbial Stage

As someone with suspected moderate to severe toxicity, I had been warned that if hadn’t done enough foundation work on my gut and liver then I would struggle with the anti-microbial stage. When these bugs die they put a strain on the gut, liver and kidneys.

Looking back, the main reason I gave up on the gut work was because I didn’t have any success with the mast cell stabiliser ‘Ketotifen’ which had apparently helped so many others. A friend with obvious and severe gut issues was having success with it so it’s pot luck. I had big expectations but it made me way worse so the next option was to use probiotics, gut friendly nutraceuticals  and foods like milk kefir.  Good probiotics are expensive and making kefir is time consuming so along with some other excuses I skipped it. Bad decision.

Before I go on, if there is some ongoing stress in your life that you can do something about, then this can be a huge help. The gut wants blood around it, this can’t happen when you’re stressed out all the time in flight-or-flight mode. And I realise the illness itself causes stress that we can only do so much about (but usually more then we think) so this issue is different for everyone. Too much fake light from devices is not good for the gut, I’ve minimised my usage particularly at nights and it has definitely helped, particularly with sleeping. It’s takes constant experimenting.

Back to the gut program – I also thought I was strong enough at that point to start the anti-microbial program which included products such as Artemesia, Fungus Fighter, Vermez (a NZ product, similar to Para-Shield). An anti-microbial program has bug killing ingredients such as Walnut Hull, Clove, Oregano Leaf, Pau d’Arco, Wormwood, Olive Leaf Extract, Garlic etc. Some also take Niacin the blood thinner so the ingredients can get into all the nooks and crannies.

Initially I started well but as the weeks progressed I got weaker. My will power to get better kept me going but it got to a point where was rapidly fading away and had no choice but to stop. I didn’t follow instructions properly either – I started taking small doses of everything instead of ramping up one product at a time to full dose and then moving on.

After a demoralising day or 2 I when back to the drawing board and made a plan for the gut and liver work. I’m currently tolerating well the Milk thistle for liver and a kidney support (both HerbPharm products from iherb).

For gut i take Slippery Elm (mucosal lining healer) and should really make some magic gut tea to sip away on all day which includes slippery elm, marsh-mellow root and licorice.

Probiotics include sporadic batches of kefir, ramping up FiveLac powder and looking to add something like Vivomixx. This all seems to be working because every time I increase dosage I get headaches and fatigue but it clears relatively quickly. I take a binder in the mornings and sometimes at night away from anything else consumed. (Dr Shultz Intestinal binder). And Dr Shultz #1 to get things moving; very effective.

I will wait until I can tolerate maximum dose of the gut and probiotic products and only then will have another attempt at the bug killing stage. And then comes the extraction of toxins from inside the cell which will most likely involve Alpha Lipoic acid and some form of chelator/binder such as DMSA to escort it pout of the body.  I did an “Andy Cutler” round of DMSA (extra-cellular detox / outside the cell) a few weeks ago and that went well but I tried ALA alone and that was a disaster so be very careful with this as it crosses the blood brain barrier and allows toxins to travel in and out. It is VERY easy to shift toxins from relatively safe locations to not so safe locations and make yourself MUCH worse. Which method I use will be decided in the future with consultation with professionals matched with what I think i can handle.

As desperate as we are to get these toxins out of our bodies we have to be patient. Big mistakes will only delay recovery.

My recovery program is currently based on:

  • Connie Fox detox program – thyroid, gut, heavy metal detox. – Dr Klinghardt.
  • Dr Jack Kruse circadian rhythm guidelines
  • Root Cause protocol – importance of magnesium and diet
  • Paleo Diet – nothing that can feed the unwanted bacteria associated with toxicity – sugar, booze, bread – most high glycemic carbs.

Next update will be when I attempt the bug killing stage again. I hope this post has helped and given you some clues as to what to do next or possible root causes.

Anti-Microbial / Parasite / Viral / Fungal Program

I’m pleased to say I now have enough resilience and core strength to tolerate the anti microbial supplements. Many months ago I could not tolerate any bug killing food or supplement. Even Coconut oil would send me into a spiral of physical and mental suffering. I couldn’t even tolerate a 1 drop per day of Liver Life. I was at a roadblock, i just could not progress. No wonder products like cilantro, DMPS/DMSA, Alpha Lipoic Acid were total disasters for me a while back; it’s because my body was in no shape to handle them. They are great products in their own right but timing is everything. You cannot rush severe and chronic toxicity issues.

What was vital for getting me to this level was balancing my thyroid (even though the doctors said it was normal – they were wrong) , taking customized supplements including B6 and Zinc to fix the Pyroluria/Pyrolles issue and getting diet right. Without this, I was going nowhere just existing and hoping I would find some solution. Part of me had given up; it was a miserable existence. I’d seen over 80 health practitioners over a 22 year period. I was starting to suspect my own sanity, and it didn’t help that the ‘best’ doctors in the country were saying it was psychosomatic. I can now confirm that this was total bullshit and no anti-psychotic drug or psychotherapy would have ever had a long lasting positive effect.

So to be at the stage where I am improving and can tolerate supplements and reduce my microbial load is great. Food and sleep actually work now, in terms of natural recovery from daily activities. But the job isn’t done yet, the bug/parasite/worm killing side effects aren’t fun if I don’t manage the program well but this is all part of learning and healing.

This is the last stage before actually directly pulling out any heavy metals like lead and mercury. Much of this toxic load would have already come out by that stage (when bugs are killed they can release toxins) and one should be feeling relatively strong or much stronger than previously to be able to tolerate the final detox products like synthetic chelators and alpha lipoic acid and cilantro etc. These are examples; I’m not sure what I will be using yet.

Below is a pic of most of the anti-microbial program products.

So I’m established on whole thyroid extract, nutraceuticals/supplements and a damn good diet for me. Everyone is different but it’s based on a meat, eggs, greens regime with very little carbs, sugar – you know the drill. High quality food. If you’ve found an ideal diet that is not what generally works for others then that’s great. I’ll admit I haven’t been so strict and had the occasional bread, chocolate, diary blowout and the odd beer. I tolerated those foods way better but it’s defeating the purpose – those foods feed what we are trying to kill.

Brief Overview

Dr Shultz: Intestinal formula # 1. This has been the most effective anti-constipation product I’ve used. The time between getting the message and sitting down is alarmingly quick! When detoxing, you want things to be passing through you relatively quickly for a number of reasons. Even with clay/charcoal binders; you don’t want these agents getting stuck and eventually soaking back into your bloodstream. They absorb a lot but they aren’t perfect. If you don’t use a product like this then you are going to have to rely on enemas which are cheaper but more work. Or any other method you have discovered to get things moving.

Niacin: dilates small blood vessels so the bug killing formulas can really get in there

Grapefruit Juice/Extract: Our livers make enzymes that lessen the effect of the bug killers; this inhibits the enzymes. It is also an antimicrobial in itself.

Milk Thistle: general liver support. The liver will be under strain so any support for it is recommended. Although it is not directly a bug killer it can mobilize a backlog of toxins so just be aware of this. I started on this first and used the coffee and charcoal/clay when feeling rough. Once established on this I introduced the active bug killers.

Fungus Fighter: anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Kidney support.

Harker Vermez: a deworming/parasite intestinal cleanser. This is a New Zealand product but there are similar potions around containing wormwood, green walnut leaf and clove oil and more. Davinci Labs Para Shield is another option.

Liver Life: opens up liver detox pathways and supports kidney function. This product is not actually part of the official program I’ve been given. I find it very powerful and increasing the daily dose has been slow going. I should be fine with the Milk Thistle so I suspect the herbs in there are helping to flush out toxins. I’ll bear with it and reassess things in a month.

Coffee Enemas: as a veteran who has done over 200 of these over the years I can safely say these have been one of the most effective detox / plan management treatments out there. They also cost around $0.50 each and you don’t have to leave home. I’m doing one every few days at the moment and more if I’m not tolerating a higher bug killer dose. Clay and Charcoal can help a lot but there’s nothing like a full flush out to ease the detox side effect pain. The coffee has acids in it that dilate tubes around the gallbladder and liver, sometimes you can hear the dirty old bile getting squeezed out into your gut. Your gut then senses this toxicity and immediately expels it. Doctors have told me i’m wrong on this but they’ve never done one!!?? My first few coffee enemas expelled hundreds of pea sized balls most likely from my gallbladder or liver ducts, this literally saved me from a world of pain.

I haven’t met many others who have had the success I’ve had with this treatment but i think it’s really worth a go.

Dr Shultz: Formula # 2 Clay / Charcoal: an effective binder of whatever is expelled from your gallbladder and soaked in from the gut wall. I am still experimenting as to when is the best time to take this. I use it half an hour after taking the bug killers and after a coffee enema if I’m feeling light headed. I’ve also tried before bed and upon waking. Hopefully it becomes clear what works and I can share this. If I’m really struggling then I take it throughout the day on an as needed basis. Coffee enema may also be required. But if it gets to this stage then I decrease my dosage as it can be too tough on the body. One has to be patient in this game. On the occasional day off I bounce back strongly so this is positive.

Improvements on days off have been better mood, clearer head, better sleep, food tastes better, less anxiety/irritability, smoother skin. Just all round improvements in general.

The amount of supplements can be overwhelming but until someone comes with a better solution then this is the way it is. It takes discipline, dedication and planning. It can be a lonely experience but if you’ve made it this far then you can keep going.

Other supplements commonly used are garlic, probiotics, para shield, lymecore formula. I’m sure there are many others that also have worked well for people. Let me know in the comments if you have had success. Infrared saunas and light exercise/stretching/swimming also can help. It’s constant experimentation. As long as you understand what you are trying to do and what support your body needs. Toxins into bloodstream – liver – gallbladder/kidney/skin then out. These channels must be supported and functioning reasonably well before undertaking this stage.

A full description on dosages and products will be in my detailed program published later this year (assuming my progress continues as this rate)

All the best with your own recovery.

Update Feb 2018

My recovery is going well. I feel at about 65-70% well. A year ago I also thought I was at this level but I was actually much worse. Back then I was at around 30-40% which was a miserable place to be.

I’ve still got work to do – I’m approaching stage 4 of 5. I’m tolerating all the vitamins so next is reducing bugs, bio-films, mold and candida if I I have it. I’m going to do the 3 month+ course anyway just to clear the path for the final stage which is intracellular detoxification. I should be feeling much better and have some resilience by then as this stage is tough on the body.

I continue to do what I mentioned in my previous post:

  • High dose customised supplements. I’m finally able to tolerate (took 3 months) a full dose of the supplements which I listed a few posts back. 2000mcg, 400mcg Folic Acid, 100mgs B6 plus many others all formulated into 2 caps in the morning and 4 at night. This is not a DIY job, these levels are customised to my biochemistry and will change over time. They are designed to normalize neurotransmitter levels which obviously have a huge impact on overall health. http://www.biobalance.org.au/patients/find-practitioners Hunt around for a good practitioner; I had to go to the Sates to see Dr Mensah himself. I could have gone to Aussie but decided to not muck around and go straight to the man himself. This is not part of Connie Fox’s program but the nutrients are similar.

  • Thyroid levels corrected: TSH (thyroid simulating hormone) must be kept around 1 to 1.5.  Re-test every 3 months. My doctor said my initially high (hypo) TSH was in the “normal’ range. Then when it was really low (hyper) it was apparently also in the normal range. Unbelievable. Me believing this over the last decade has cost me, it’s been a huge mistake not treating the thyroid. Correcting my TSH down to 1.5 has made a huge difference. If you’re toxic with something like mercury or other poijsons, it can mess with your thyroid and make you feel real shitty and miserable. Whole/Natural Thyroid Extract will correct TSH. Micro doses are needed for sensitive individuals. E.g https://getrealthyroid.com/why-get-real/nature-throid/

  • Avoid/ Limit stress: being unwell is a stressful time so you initially can only do so much. Everything must be examined – relationships, loneliness, noise, driving, EMF, fake light – computers, too much exercise and more.

  • Avoid / Limit EMF:  as I was sensitive to EMF and most likely WI-FI I built a small cabin so I sleep outside of the house. It’s zero AC current, (my body voltage in my existing room was about 15 volts AC!). It runs off a car battery and solar panel and sleep much better; it;s so much ‘calmer’. I realise not everyone can just go and build a cabin on their front lawn so things to do in the mean time is measure your body voltage where you sleep, turn off wifi at night or run Ethernet cables to devices, turn off house power at the switchboard. All this is a hassle so that’s why I moved outside. I really had to make some big changes. It may not be necessary if you can do the above and get stronger therefore losing the sensitivity, but it sure helps and no one should be living in a house with a lot of stray electrical activity. We are getting bombarded with cell site microwave, wifi, unshielded house wiring, and blue light from big TV’s and looking at devices after sunset. I advise limiting this as it messes with the melatonin and glutathione you need for a deep restorative/detox sleep. Dr Klinghardt has good info about this. Also, as Dr Jack Kruse explains, AM light is really important and has helped me. I spend as much of the morning outside or working near a window to natural light. Our brain needs this.

  • Gut: my gut wasn’t too bad but I know some people really have some issues. Be aware of gut brain issues where if you are neurologically stressed then this will negatively affect you gut, no matter how many amazing ‘gut repair’ and special diets you try. Someone like Connie Fox in Florida has a lot of great ideas about healing the gut. Toxicity still has to be resolved or else you’ll be managing symptoms for ever. NB: I have no business relationship with Connie.

  • Purpose: really anything that you live for. A hobby, work, future career, study, an upcoming event, gardening, family, travel, a project. Don’t let health be everything or else it can become a vacuum. I know it’s important but if you are at it all the time you can become worse; you become IT. I know because it happened with me. Try to have as much fun and socializing as possible. I know this sounds ridiculous as some people are bedridden and couldn’t think of anything worse and just cannot enjoy anything they used to do. This will change as you improve. I visualized being well and doing all the things I used to do. Our brains don’t know any different so visualize your healthy future. At times working and getting your health program started will take a  lot of time and it must be your primary focus. It can take time to accept this; realizing that for the time being you cannot do what want to do or live how you used to live. It is difficult at times, there’s no doubt about it.

  • Initial Tough Stage: I vary rarely need to do any of these pain and symptom management techniques anymore but I’ll list what I did anyway: coffee enemas were a life saver, I built my own infra-red sauna, soaking in the lake/ocean, spending time outdoors as uncomfortable as the bright light was. Slow deep breathing, trying to relax somehow once a day.  A very strict diet was essential – for my biochemistry it was as many greens as possible with some animal protein. Just experiment until you get it right. I could not touch wheat, diary, sugar, booze. Be careful with supplements if you don’t know what you’re doing as they can make you way worse.

Below – Getting out and about and actually well enough to enjoy it. That’s what people don’t understand – I could have done this when I was weak but I would have hated it and that wouldn’t have been good for me.

My near zero emf ‘off the grid’ cabin running off an old car battery and solar panel. It’s good knowing there aren’t any live cables within a metre from my head when I’m sleeping. For most people this isn’t possible. As you progress with healing/detoxing these sensitivities should subside.

Cheers, John

Taking a break from my Website / Blog…

For the time being I won’t be updating and replying to comments unfortunately. I hope to return as soon as possible but this is a health decision. Long sessions on the computer sap my energy more than they should so I am limiting any computer work.

Feel free to comment and get in contact as I will still glance over it but I can’t promise a reply anytime soon.

This is what I’m currently doing:

Diet: I follow mainly cooked veges, lots of greens and a little meat. This coincides with my methylation status which is borderline over-methylator. I avoid all the goodies such as sugar, booze and baking. I drink ph8.5 local spring water and add electrolytes sometimes.

Lifestyle: I avoid stress like the plague. I would recommend anyone limit or stop any unnecessary stress whether it’s physical, mental or emotional. I also attempt to occupy myself with activities that I find non-taxing and interesting; whether that’s self-study from a book or working in the yard/garden. I avoid EMF from computers and house power, talking on mobile phone etc as much as possible, but not to the point where thinking about it all the time is stressful.

I spend as much time outside and follow Dr Jack Kruse’s work. This works well for me and I continue to work towards a ‘natural light’ life. Less fake blue light and more sunlight.

I usually wind down/meditate once a day.

Supplementation: Walsh Institute/ Mensah Medical – to naturally rebuild neurological function and therefore detox function. See previous post.

And just be aware that even with the best diet and supplements, it’s what you do or don’t do all day that is just as important. If we keep doing things that take too much energy from us or stress us out then we’ll continue to struggle. We can outsource some of the solutions but it also comes down to us solving a lot of it ourselves.

I choose to stay calm when previously I would have got wound up. It’s a choice, so choose to not emotionally react. It’s a waste of vital energy; energy we need for healing.

Sleep: The Jack Kruse advice has been beneficial. Like avoiding fake light as much as possible after sunset. Also Dr Klinghart’s sleep sanctuary tips are good. e.g Ambient AC ‘body voltage’ should be less than 1 volt AC. I measure 15 volts in my bedroom so I’m working to decrease that.

All these little improvements add up. I make the changes and don’t think about it anymore. There is so much temptation and technology in the world today but I think a lot of it comes with a cost. We weren’t designed for all this constant over-stimulation; it can burn us out.

All the best with your return to Peak Health.

My Visit to Mensah Medical

In July 2017 I flew to California where Mensah Medical had an outreach clinic. I had done enough research to want to consult with Dr Mensah. He said I could have gone to Australia but for a number of reasons I decided to see the man himself. I had also read the book ” Nutrient Power – Heal Your Biochemistry” which was quite educational and that answered a few long standing questions I had.

The most common imbalances are:

Elevated copper/zinc ratio. Overmethylation, Undermethylation, Pyrolles disorder (B6 Zinc), Heavy Metal Overload, Glucose Dyscontrol/Blood sugar issues, Malabsorbtion.

I can tick a few of those.

So with a consultation and accompanying lab tests, we can be prescribed the most ideal nutrient combination for our bio-type. These supplement combinations supposedly balance our biochemistry. It seems too good to be true and I’ll be finding out soon enough whether it improves my lot, or not. My history with high dose supplements hasn’t been very successful.

As you can see below, dosing is typically high. This just highlights why we shouldn’t try to do this stuff ourselves. I think I’d now rather take no supplements than try and guess what I need and accidentally over-dose in certain nutrients.

Nutrient overload causes more trouble than nutrient deficiencies. Better to eat as well as we can until we really now what imbalances we have.

Some of the testing included – Whole Blood Histamine (methylation status, high histamine = undermethylator & low histamine <40ng/mL is over-methylator), Thyroid, Copper Serum, Vitamin D, and Plasma Zinc, Pyroluria/Pyrolles, % Free Copper, Homocysteine. Trace Elements Hair test.

The histamine test confirmed to me why the gut healing anti-histamine Ketotifen didn’t work for me months ago. I can only assume that Low histamine plus taking an anti-histamine = even lower histamine = severe fatigue and low mood. Perhaps there is more to it but that makes sense. Histamine is a neuro-transmitter so that explains things.

An example of customized morning and evening nutrients/supplements following consultation and testing.

Other mandatory supplements can include: Evening Primrose Oil, N-Acetyl-Cysteine, a Cal/Mag combo and Lithium Orotate. GABA is an option for helping to relax.

Example of an over-methylator’s optimal diet: mainly folate rich veges, some protein, no soy. I need to research this more but it seems happy vegans and vegetarian could most likely be tending toward the over-methylator range – i.e low Whole Blood Histamine. They produce more than enough methyl so do not need so much high methionine foods – meat, eggs, fish.

They also produce high levels of some neuro-transmitters such as serotonin so taking serotonin enhancing medications like SSRI’s could lead to severely worse symptoms. To avoid this, doctors could have simply done a Whole Blood Histamine test so see what drug suited what patient. Instead, it’s experimental with sometimes disastrous outcomes.

On the other hand, under-methylators would most likely feel worse eating vegan/vegetarian because they are high histamine/low methyl people. Therefore these individuals may instead need high methyl foods such as meat. eggs, fish, chicken to feel well.

The only bio-type nutritionist I know is Samantha Gilbert (that’s Jhill-bear)

We’re born with our methylation status so the sooner we work this out the better if we want to feel our best.

According to Walsh Institute:

70% of population exhibits normal methylation. 22% are under methylated and 8% are over methylated.

Popular genetic testing for MTHFR, MS and SNP’s are limited in their ability to determine overall methyl status.

To be continued…I should have some answers in 2018

June 2017 – Methylation, Copper and Pyroluria

This is just an brief post on some very important topics

I’ve made progress, I suspect due to partly correcting the B6 and Zinc imbalance. (Pyroluria) I under-estimated how much of a difference this can make and suggest that anyone else who has any associated psychological symptoms to please investigate and rule out that this might be affecting you. Diet alone usually won’t fix this.

After feeling improved after months of supplementation, I didn’t reorder and weeks later could not work out why I was feeling worse. The confusion that the imbalance created caused me to not even realise what was happening.

And I’ve since learned that although you can treat yourself to some degree, this isn’t recommended, particularly for long term chronic cases. Correct testing is required to know what is biochemically going on with you. The question is: Who am I biochemically? If you don’t that, then you’re experimenting. Methylation disorder’s aren’t related to Pyroluria but both can cause nasty symptoms.

  • Are you an under-methylator, or an over-methylator? You also might have normal methylation but have Pyroluria and/or Copper issues which will need correcting.
  • Is too much copper playing a role?
  • Do you have or have you developed Pyroluria (Zinc and B6 excretion causing psychological issues)
  • Is toxicity an issue? (lead, mercury, cadmium etc)

This is too complicated to properly self-treat. If nothing else could be done in terms of seeing a professional, at least initially for Pyroluria, then a therapeutic trial might be an idea. Something like 50mg P-5-P B6 and Zinc Pincolate would be a start. Certainly better than suffering. Assuming stress is limited, some improvement should be felt within a couple of weeks or slightly longer.

Methylation needs some serious research before trying anything. Under-methylators might do well on high methyl foods like meat and eggs while under-methylators may do well with less of those foods and more folate rich foods. If an under-methylator decides to go a vegan or vegetarian diet then that’s exactly what they don’t need – more folate and less methyl.

Over-methylators usually have low histamine so taking an anti-histamine is not a good idea. I learnt this when I took Ketotifen for leaky gut. This was part of a mercury detox protocol. A lot of this heavy metal detoxing makes people worse because it can be difficult to find the right help.

With the issues I listed above, the damage and suffering is from the oxidative damage caused by the underlying problems. Therefore, anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C and E will help to alleviate symptoms.

I underestimated how anxious, depressed and generally miserable one can feel when Zinc and B6 are too low or unbalanced. Any form of stress whether it be mental, physical or emotional increases Pyrolles in the blood therefore causing even more Zinc and B6 to be excreted. That’s why it’s important to minimise any form of stress. Even when you feel like you can do more, please don’t, at least not yet. It’s just not worth it.

High zinc on hair tests can also point to Pyroluria. I always thought my high Zinc was a good thing but I was wrong as Zinc was being excreted.

With excercise, there may be an initial high but you will most likely pay for it later when the imbalances catch up with you. Remember, the physical stress on the body will cause excretion of vital nutrients until you are rebalanced. And cause oxidative stress. That applies to work, relationships and any mental strain (noise, light, concentration etc). The secret is to calmly float throughout the day without actually straining yourself.

Someone that does know how to treat these imbalances is Dr Mensah at Mensah Medical. William Walsh was a pioneer and has a great book. I have not met someone like Dr Mensah yet but will endeavor to so I can fine tune my program.

After researching some of the work he does, many questions I’ve had over the years have been answered.

Methylation: I underestimated how of a role much methylation plays. Being an under-methylator or over-meythlator can have huge ramifications.

Methylation is an epigenetic pathway used by cells to control gene expression. This is an important. Methylation is the process by which methyl molecules are added to enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters as well as to DNA itself.

Under methylator – low serotonin and dopamine. High folate. Anti-depressants such as SSRI’s may suit these people. That’s not to stay they are recommended as a first line of treatment now that we know certain nutrients at correct dosages are very powerful. Among other targeted nutrients, methionine, calcium and magnesium can treat under-methylation issues.

Over-methylator – high serotonin and dopamine, low folate. SSRI’s commonly have severe side-effects as they cause too much serotonin. Conversely, folate and niacin can be helpful because it’s decreases methyl, calming you down. High folate foods such as spinach can be beneficial here. I’m wondering if folate as a supplement may also help here. But i won’t be doing this by myself, it’s too serious and in-depth to solve ourselves.

Over reaction to anti-histamines and SAM-e is also typical signs for over-methylation.

Because over-methylators are always fired up, it can take a lot to excite them. If a house fire starts, they will calmly pick up some personal items and walk out. It’s because they are already ‘up there’, in that flight-or-flight mode.

Their view on Chelation is that it’s also risky for people with imbalances because it will take out even more good metals like Zinc and Calcium. This can months to improve and rebuild nutrient reserves. I’m beginning to wonder how many heavy metal toxicity cases are actually nutrient imbalances because it’s more common to look at toxicity than imbalances. And it’s difficult to treat imbalances if you don’t know what you’re doing. A great balanced diet will not suffice; only targeted therapeutic dosages of nutrients will.

Pyrolles, (pyroluria, kryptopyrolles, Mauve Factor) – Zinc and B6 play a vital role in the creation of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Pyrolles in blood attach to Zinc and B6 and then get excreted. This is not ideal to say the least but treatment is straight forward as long as severe stress has ended or is decreased. The treatment itself will begin to lessen the internal strain – the self-fulfilling stress cycle.

Copper imbalance – copper is required for production of neurotransmitters but too much can cause the fight-or-flight mechanism to stay on most or all of the time which can cause people to feel like their life is constantly in danger and nothing can seemingly help them calm down. This constant neural stimulation wears down the mind, body and soul and also furthers nutrient imbalance.

It would make sense that high copper foods should be limited, such as avocado, liver, chocolate and nuts. And copper supplements are not required as we get enough from a good balanced diet.

I will continue to learn more about his critical area of health and post any relevant information. And correct or add to the info in this post.

Feb 2017 Update

The good news is that I’m still making good gains. The work on improving my gut is mostly done and the main ingredient was a type of anti-histamine alongside other herbal products. I would never imagine an anti-histamine helping but what this does in short, is reset the gut. This achieved what nothing else could. Not even weeks on raw diet and many other types of treatment over the years (like 10 years!). I was that weak and ill that I needed something powerful. Gut healing can also be done with an intense program involving probiotics, diet and other supplements but I was at a point where I really didn’t care what I took; as long as it worked.

There’s more to this story than just taking it and feeling better but I will leave that for another post or my eventual book.

Once the gut is working better then this turns everything around. Food and sleep start doing what they are supposed to be do and healing can finally begin.

Phase two is getting on top of chronic infections and taking  a load off of your immune system. These infections can also house heavy metals (heavy metals and unfriendly microbes go hand in hand) and other toxins so when they are killed these toxins can re-circulate in our bloodstream and make us feel shitty. Biofilms can be involved here. The strengthened gut, plus a clay and charcoal mix, improved liver function is there to process and ‘mop up’ these toxins. So without even taking chelating agents, these toxins will leave the body. If they don’t get excreted they will redistribute and cause even more trouble. I wish I could prove this by doing testing every few weeks but it’s just not feasible. I’m happy with just feeling better as time goes on; that’s what we all want.

So I’ve introduced some anti-microbial herbs like clove, wormwood, oregano, coconut oil, and others to start to decrease my immune load. I’ve started slowly as you do, and side effects are noticeable but aren’t too bad. This is something that cannot be rushed and will take a few months to get on top of them. I should be feeling improved after these bad bugs are deceased / dormant and then true chelation can start with the likes of EDTA, Cilantro, Lipoic Acid etc.

These should be tolerated by that stage. Cilantro and ALA hurt me badly back in the day so I will be very careful with these. Remember toxins are very easy to mobilize but more difficult to excrete.

Diet has been very important for me. I eat nothing that feeds these little critters – that means sugar, bread, pasta, sugary drinks. There is no point feeding them up and trying to kill them at the same time. So it’s back to the ketogenic / paleo foods which i happen to enjoy anyway. I have the odd ‘cheat meal’ or ‘cheat day’ but get back on the keto/paleo wagon without out too much trouble.

I hope this post has been informative and I will post again when I have more info

Jan 2017 Update

I have made some good gains over the last month or so. It feels like a breakthrough of sorts.

The last couple of years has been tough. So much work for me only to go backwards.

There was chelation therapy where I could not tolerate more than 3 mgs DMPS or DMSA.

I had serious food intolerances so sugar, wheat, alcohol were off. If I started to eat those foods I’d end up in pain and bedridden within 2 weeks.

I had no resilience with any kind of stress, be it exercise, arguments, physical lifting. If I worked part time for someone i would literally begin to breakdown after a couple of weeks work. My repair system was dysfunctional, i just couldn’t recover. So I retreated and life was miserable. I was really beginning to despair and was running out of ideas.

The B6 and Zinc has helped as well as binders at night. My more recent blog posts will cover what else I’ve been doing.

Dr Bruce Jones – Melbourne – Detox Doctor

Dr Jones is in Melbourne, Australia. All the testing I did can be seen 2 or 3 posts ago, last month. Too many perhaps, but fascinating all the same. The stool test from Germany was very informative. But finding solutions is the tricky part.

The products he recommends are Cilantro, R-Lipoic Acid, EDTA, BioSil and Pecta-Sol C. Unfortunately not for me as far too aggressive.

Effective for mild cases of chronic toxicity but not mild to severe as I have found out.

Anyone who has a severe reaction to agents such as Cilantro, DMSA and R-Lipoic Acid should not continue with them as it’s very easy to do WAY MORE damage. The old adage ‘no pain no gain’ doesn’t work in this instance. Any pain actually means you’re going backwards and most likely damaging yourself.

Before doing any testing, I was advised to start on 240mg Super R-Lipoic Acid. Holy shit, NO WAY I thought at the time after previous disasters with Alpha Lipoic Acid. Since I was also taking the Ecoeugenics PectaSol-C binder I was advised that this will bind any toxins and I should be okay.

This was reckless advice. I compromised and started on about 10mg, so 1/25 of what I was advised. And boom, within days I was verging on being admitted to a mental hospital. 240mg might well have been a hospital dose because I may not have been conscious. For someone else it might be fine but we are all so different it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ situation. It’s potentially very dangerous.

It just shows that anyone has to be so careful with taking anything that mobilises toxins. No doctor or test will EVER know or show exactly what toxin levels, in what locations, are really inside you. Mobilising toxins is the easiest thing to do and it also causes the most damage. Getting the toxins OUT OF YOUR BODY is the most important thing. If they just keep recirculating around and around they can make you feel horrendous.

PectaSol-C is a great general detox product to be taken daily but in my opinion it’s not really a top notch and hard core binder. The charcoal and clay products I think do a better job. Something like Dr Shultz’s Intestinal Absorber #2 will definitely soak up some nasties. For sensitive people, these binders alone can actually have some mild side effects. One product at a time.

I hope Dr Jones can adapt his protocols for those of us who aren’t ready for the powerful detoxing agents. I am more than happy to help as I progress. The detox game is high risk for doctors so I do appreciate those who actually try to help those i need. It’s all pretty new so we just have to be careful and take things slowly.
